Now that the weather has finally started to break, there is an overwhelming want to run out into the great outdoors and bask in the glorious sunlight that we've been missing for about five months that actually feels like a lifetime. All of these wonderful things to do outdoors, like lounging in the grass, going on a walk, having an impromptu picnic with your besties, you may find yourself asking, "Why should I sit inside in my room while I have all this living to do?" I'll tell you why, the semester isn't over yet. Sorry to bring the happiness to an immediate halt, but there are still a few things indoors that need your attention. Midterms, papers, dreaded group projects, and finals are not going to melt away just because the cold weather did. Here are some tips on staying focused for the next couple weeks when everything in your body is telling you to quit.
1. Step away from the window.
Yes, it's sunny. Yes, you want to go outside. Yes, you would love a nice afternoon in the sunshine. But let's not forget you have that paper that needs to be finished, the quiz this upcoming week, homework with a midnight deadline, and finals are quickly approaching. As hard as it is, step away from the window, close the blinds, sit down, and get to work.
2. Let your pollen allergy stop you.
Springtime is beautiful, yes, but snot dripping down your face from your allergies isn't so pretty. Easy solution to this problem? Walk around with a tissue box, the perfect accessory to your spring attire, right? No. Wrong. Please, don't wander campus carrying a box of tissues, stay in your room and get to all that stuff on your to-do list.
3. The heat leads to sweat. Sweat is not cute.
So you underestimated what 72 degrees feels like, and you wore jeans and a long sleeve tee when everyone else is wearing shorts and tanks, and you feel like you're swimming in a pool of your own sweat. Sweat has a place, but that's the gym, not a relaxing afternoon on the grass.
4. Don't blow off responsibilities to spend a couple hours outside.
This is future you being angry at past you because you decided to skip doing your math homework to go outside with your friends and spy on cute shirtless boys on the volleyball court. Hands down, shirtless boys are cuter than derivatives, but the derivatives have to unfortunately come first.
5. The wind does not agree with your hair.
We can't all be as majestic looking as Nicholas Cage in the wind. Quite honestly, after I step outside and the wind gets in my hair, I look like a giant hairball. Save your hairdo, stay in doors, and start reading that book you should have finished seven weeks ago.
6. Save it for Sunday!
What better day of the week to enjoy the sun than SUN-day?! Strive to get all of your pesky work done during the week so you can spend the entire day enjoying everything spring has to offer! Don't cram in time in between (or instead of) classes, devout your entire day to soaking up some rays and getting all that natural light for your #selfiesunday post.
Yes, spring is beautiful and obviously everyone wants to get outside and experience the warm embrace of the sun after the frozen winter, but let's finish this school business. Yeah, it's a pain, but it can be done. Keep these six tips in mind and power through the end of the year. Break the spring fever, fam!
