With winter term a mere blizzard of a nightmare in the past, it is time to spring forward into action into the warmth of spring term. The sun is starting to stay out longer, you can hear birds chirping and everything is starting to blossom into effect. Daggers season is just around the corner and you finally have an excuse to wear that cute romper you bought for yourself last January. Winter term can bring out the worst in us.
As it gives us the cold shoulder, we are surrounded by seasonal depression, living in a constant state of darkness and have probably hibernating your social life away. Use this spring term to blossom out of your cocoon and spring clean your life.
1. The dirt under the dirt
It happens to the best of us. Finals have left your home in a disaster. Your bedroom is a mixture of random noodle containers and last week’s wardrobe sprawled all over the ground. Your kitchen counter has not met the bottom of a rag in ages. And that tuna casserole sitting in the corner of your fridge, the thing that you are your roommates sworn you thrown out in February, has turned a new slimy shade of green. Yep. Your place is nasty and you probably do not feel the best about it either. It is time to dust of broom, cleaning sprays and take out a few garbage bags and clean your living space up. According to Ph.D. Sherrie Bourg Carter, clutter plays a large stress simulator in life. Clutter over stimulates the stimuli and is a distraction. Start your spring term with a fresh, focused mind. Spring cleaning your home will allow you to live a less stressful life.
2. A plan of action
Maybe the last term went terrific with school and maybe it fell more along the lines of horrific. Whatever your grades where the last term takes the time to sit and reflect what worked well and what fell short. Create little goals for yourself to obtain. Maybe this term instead of binge-watching the Shameless season for the second time in a row, you will spend some of your extra hours at night reviewing tomorrow’s lessons slides. Or you will attend weekly office hours. Analyzing what worked and what you can do better allows you to get a jump on this terms classes and making you a better student.
3. Secret studying hide outs
Although the start of spring term may be more rain than shine, start looking around for fun study spots. Then when the sun starts to shine its way back into your life, you have some new favorite study spots that you can start working on your summer tan and keeping up in school.
4. Recycling
The best thing about the warm weather is the cute outfits you can start piecing together. Hello, my jeans skirt that has been hiding in the back of my closet all year! However, as winter term has worn you out, some of your old clothes have felt the affect of it too. Go through your closet and figure out what clothes do not fit you and are ready for retirement. Exchange clothes with your roommates. Donate your overly loved clothes to a local charity or sell them to places like Buffalo Exchange or Pluto Closet. Not only will you have a new addition to your spring wardrobe (and your closet will actually have room for it), but you also help the environment and local organizations. If it is not for the children, think of all the polar bears you could be helping in the arctic by eliminating greenhouse gases from factories.
5. Growing new roots
Break out of your old routine and see what else the world has to offer. Walk around your campus or read the local paper to see what activities are going on. Joining a new club can branch yourself out to more people and give you a fun break from studying.
6. Spicing up that old resume
As summer is just around the corner, take the last few months to see how you can buffer your resume. Look for local events to volunteer at or update your recent employment section. Start contacting the business in your hometown to start getting a job aligned for summer. You will be one jump ahead of the gang when you get back at the end of June.
