For us Florida Gulf Coast University students, Spring Break is right around the corner. With being a college student that means that you may not be able to afford to fly to a tropical island and get away for a week. Seeing other people on Instagram with their extravagant vacation plans may make you feel bad about yourself, but you can have a great Spring Break too without spending a ton!
Since we live in Florida there are tons of beaches around to go to, if you want to go a relaxing beach with plenty of sand and shells, check out Sanibel Island. With a six dollar toll, you won't be spending too much. I typically go to Bowman's Beach or Algiers. These two beaches are very clean and not often busy. There is plenty of space to lay out and catch the sun's rays.
Captiva is a little down from Sanibel, Captiva is gorgeous with beautiful rocks that the waves splash up on, the beach is newly scaped meaning more land to lay out on. If you don't mind a drive, take a trip to Boca Grande. The beaches there have beautiful white sands and crystal blue waters. Some parts even have shark teeth for you to find!
If the beach isn't your thing, there is a nature trail located in Fort Myers. Calusa Nature Walk is a beautiful walk along the Florida trails. There is a boardwalk for you to walk on as you view all of Florida's beauty. You can see alligators, hogs, butterflies, and many more organisms. They sometimes have a morning yoga class you can go to as well, who doesn't want to meditate among wildlife?
Florida is a beautiful state with a lot of natural beauty. You don't have to worry about going on an expensive trip this Spring Break, just take a trip to your local beach with some friends, and kick back and relax. Spring Break is a time to forget about school and just enjoy life and friends.
