Your Spring Break Road Trip Playlist

Spring break is coming up for college students soon, and we all know we’re planning one of the same four things this break: family, friends, beach, or road trip. If you’re that person going travelling abroad or exotically, that is not a “spring break trip”, okay? That’s a bucket list check.

I, one of the rest of us, am road tripping up the East Coast to Vermont with the end destination set as the Ben and Jerry’s Factory. Of course, a quality playlist is a necessity for any amount of time in the car, a truly stellar mix was in order for the four and a half hours in the car (without traffic). For those also preparing for hours on the road, here are some musts to put on your road trip radio.

1. The Chart Topper

These are the trendy songs that everyone knows and -while may not love- will jam out to. You don’t want to, but of course you know all the words, and you will not be able to singing along.

Our Picks:

  • Roses by The Chainsmokers
  • All Night by Chance the Rapper
  • 24K Magic by Bruno Mars
  • Closer by the Chainsmokers

2. The Car Karaoke

These songs, while not necessarily jams or new enough to be throwbacks, have the whole car involved. These are your harmonizers, belters, Idina Menzels at the end of “Defying Gravity”.

Our Picks:

  • Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus
  • Girl Almighty by One Direction
  • Anna Sun by WALK THE MOON
  • Cheerleader by OMI

3. The Rock Out

These songs are a little heavier, a little darker. We all want to dance a bit when we’ve been sitting in the car for hours, and these songs are perfect for a solid air guitar.

Our Picks:

  • Girl by Jukebox the Ghost
  • Last Nite by the Strokes
  • Let’s Dance to Joy Division by The Wombats
  • Breezeblocks by alt-J

4. The Indie Gem

Somewhere in the bowels of your playlist, there is a song you’ve never heard of that one of your friends snuck on and it will change you world. Indie gems are those songs that are catchy and cute that you want to listen to on repeat for a while.

Our Picks:

  • Genghis Khan by Miike Snow
  • Beware the Dog by The Griswolds
  • Let’s Hurt Tonight by OneRepublic
  • Stop for Nothing by courtship.

5. The Electro-POP

These songs are groovy and fit the “vibe” of a car filled with friends heading across the highway towards an adventure.

Our Picks:

  • Rollercoaster by Bleachers
  • Electric Love by BØRNS
  • Mine by Phoebe Ryan
  • Girls Like You by The Naked and the Famous

6. The Throwback Jam

These are the crowd pleasers. These are the songs of your childhood that you know from the opening three seconds (and will have stuck in your head for the next two weeks).

Our Picks:

  • No Scrubs by TLC
  • He Said She Said by Ashley Tisdale
  • I Won’t Say (I’m in Love) from “Hercules”
  • Hollaback Girl by Gwen Stefani

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
