What do you think of when you hear the words “Spring Break”? My mind immediately thinks of going to Cabo San Lucas or some other place in Mexico and having an insane week filled with crazy parties and even crazier people as seen in the movie Springbreakers.
The typical Spring Break stereotype in America is that in college, everyone has crazy adventures in a big party city. However, that doesn’t need to be your spring break. So what some girls you went to high school with are partying in Mexico? What makes spring break spring break is the people that you are spending it with, not the place you spend it in.
The past 3 spring breaks, I have traveled to San Francisco, LA and Miami with my best friends. In these places, we didn’t go to any parties or have any crazy experiences, but we did make amazing memories.
We went to San Francisco for my 16th birthday and it was the best birthday I’ve ever had. We stayed with my uncle in the city and were your typical tourists. The best part about all of it was that I was exploring a new city with my best friends. I am so grateful for the opportunity to go.
The next spring break, we went to LA because my best friend (the one my first article is about) moved there before our junior year of high school. This was definitely one of the best vacations I’ve been on because I got to visit my bestie in her new home and see the places that she goes and the new friends she made.
Finally, our senior year of high school, my friends and I went to Miami because one of my friends has an apartment there. Now, I know you might be thinking that we were in Miami and probably went to South Beach and had a lit time. It was quite the opposite.
We actually went to Disneyworld and I’m telling you, it was so much better than going to South Beach. Going to Disney with your best friends is probably one of the best places you could go to. Again, no wild or crazy things happened, but I made some amazing memories that I will cherish forever.
For my first spring break in college, I ended up going with my best friend back to LA for a couple of days and then going home to see my family. So as you can see, not everyone celebrates their spring break in Mexico.
If you want to, go ahead! I am in no way condemning those who go on those trips, but I am saying that there are other options that can be just as fun and less dangerous.
Think about the people you are going to spend it with and the memories you will make. That is all that should matter when deciding what to do for spring break.
