You're Finally Home For Break... Now What?

You did all your finals, cleaned your dorm, packed your things, and now you're home. Spring break seems less spring break-y when you don't know anything to do. Do what you want to do when you are at school.

You're Finally Home For Break... Now What?
Rachel Hardin

You're home, you have this whole break to do anything that you want to do, and you have a whole quarter worth of being homesick to make up for in one small week. You want to do so many things that you don't actually know what to do... Let me share some ideas with you!

Think of some of the things that you missed while you were stuck at school... here are a few:

The beach.

There was nothing I missed more than sitting on the beach listening to the waves and playing with the sand during this last quarter. I was blessed with being born and raised in a town with access to amazing beaches and lakes, but if you don't have a beach find a lake, river, something and take some time to relax a little bit.

There's nothing better than planting yourself on a beach and soaking in the sun (but don't forget your sunscreen). It feels good, makes you feel better, and is a dream come true to spend a day near the waves.

Your favorite coffee shop.

I MISSED my favorite coffee shop. Nothing was doing it for me back at school, but as soon as I came home I was in that drive through, happy, and ready for some really good coffee.

Every single person has to have their favorite coffee shop, local, far away, and only that place makes the coffee just like you would like it. Now that you're home, buckle up because you can go get some perfect coffee.

Visit your favorite food joint.

Back at school, there are no good Mexican restaurants. I'm not being sarcastic, there's NONE. The chicken is just boiled and put into whatever you order, no spices, nothing.

Now that you're home, gather some friends and family and scoot your way to your favorite restaurants. Enjoy friends, family, and stories from all the people you love: in the restaurants you love.

Something artsy.

Do something artsy, paint classes, paint and sip events, pottery stores, go outside and take pictures. Whatever makes you happy.

Art is something that people rarely have time to do during school time, take your time, do your favorite things, and make something that you are proud of!

Grow something.

Plant some plants, clean up the yard, growing plants requires time and energy for upkeep.

Personally, I love my plants because they give you a routine in the mornings, and you get to see the amazing growth of the plants each day.

Now that you are home for break, have an amazing break, soak up the sun, and most importantly relax a little. Do all the amazing and super funny fun things at home that you have missed all quarter.

Have fun and be safe!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
