College of Charleston's favorite Thursday night hot-spot is saying goodbye February 9th. Boone's Bar has been serving College of Charleston students, tourists and locals food and fun (and their extensive whiskey list) since the fall of 2010. This is not the first time they have claimed that they were closing, though, so can we be really sure?
Boone's attracts different crowds every day: with sports playing on the flatscreen TVs every day, half-off burger Mondays, karaoke on Tuesdays and, The College's favorite, one dollar drink Thursdays starting at 11 p.m. Count on waiting in line on a Thursday night, because students sure are thirsty for cheap vodka and bourbon mixed drinks.
Downstairs, Boone's dark wooden finish makes the restaurant and bottom floor bar a relaxing place to chat with friends. Upstairs is the complete opposite, though; catch college students dancing and singing under the dance floor's rainbow lights to the DJ and his saxophone-playing sidekick.
Eric Perkins of Eater Charleston wrote a piece in May 2015 about Boone's claim of closing the next month, yet the bar lasted a little less than a year and a half after. The manager did not give detail on why they were closing, and still has not said why this time. However, we can speculate that it is due to increasing rent prices in Charleston
If Boone's closes, we will miss all that we have to offer to their diverse audiences. If they do not, however, we will all be excited to be back for some burgers, bourbon and boogying.
