A Special Thank You to My Role Model
Taylor Yenko

Hello there. It's me. You've known me since the day I was born, and even before that, you eagerly waited for me to come into this world. You have had huge hopes and dreams for me since the day you knew about me. Likewise, I have looked up to you and aimed to be like you my entire life. You have always been my role model- even as a little girl, I knew that I wanted to be just like you when I grew up. That much hasn't changed. I still want to be like you, for an endless amount of reasons. That being said, I wanted to thank you for everything you've taught me and for all the times you were right beside me when I needed you the most.

First of all, I wanted to thank you for being you. Everyone who knows you understands how much of a positive impact you leave on this world every single day. The way that you love and care for others is unmatched. You can brighten someone's day with a simple phone call or a laugh and you give to others without thinking, your love for people is contagious. Each moment that I get to spend with you is a blessing, and I'm beyond fortunate to have you in my life. You make me brave and unafraid. You make me want to live a life worth living, just like you have.

I also wanted to thank you for always encouraging me to be my best self. You've always shown me the right path and helped me find my way back when I lost my way, and that means more than you will ever know. You taught me to always be aware of the consequences of every single decision, and that lesson has brought me so far in my life. You have taught me a multitude of lessons, in fact, I learn something new from you each day that i spend with you.

Lastly, I want to thank you for showing me who I want to be. By being close to you my entire life, I have the best mold for a fulfilling and joyful life. From you, I have learned how to unconditionally love people, simply by seeing how you love others, including me. I know that If I love like you do, I will definitely be on the right path. Thank you for showing me that this is a happy life, when we focus on what truly matters.

Thank you. Thank you a million times over. I could never thank you enough for everything you have taught me about love and life. Thank you for being my inspiration, my safe place, my solid ground, and ultimately, my role model. You have taught me endless lessons about life and love, and I am forever grateful for that. You're a tough act to follow, but I know that if I'm following in your footsteps, I'm going somewhere wonderful.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
