Any time someone ask me my major, I don't just say education. I make sure to specify that it's special education.
The most common response to my major is "that's such an honorable job" or "It takes a special person to do that".
But let me be very clear, I am not a special person, those children are. They just need someone that's believes in them and is willing to always give them the benefit of the doubt.
Wanting to give these kids an equal opportunity to education and life in general does not make me honorable.
I don't need anyone's praise. I don't need anyone looking at me like I'm some kind of superhero or that I don't know what I'm getting into. The only people I want to think of me as a superhero will be the amazing kids I teach one day.
