You Are Not 10 Anymore, Your Mother's Rules No Longer Apply

Go up to that stranger, and tell them you love their outfit, dammit.

How many times have you gone in public alone and felt, well, alone?

Most of you would say every time. But, not me!

I personally love going out alone. To lunch, the movies, the beach. Why? Because you can meet new people! Usually, when you travel with someone, you don't reach out to others around you because you already have company.

But here, you are alone at the beach and you start chit-chatting with your little neighbors. You get into small talk, and finally, introduce your name. There ya go, you have made a new friend. And even sometimes- it might go as far as getting their social media to link up again in the future since you clearly share the same interests.

Our parents have taught us since being little babies that "we are not allowed to talk to strangers." And I see where their point is when a little kid is very young and vulnerable, but why follow those same rules now? We are adults and know how to handle serious situations, so you should risk talking to a stranger and seeing where it goes.

Sometimes, if you reach out to older folks, they tell you that you have made their day. We don't realize how far such a small gesture can go, but it really does.

Most people can be too shy, or they might think that it is weird to speak out in public.

You are not weird, we are all humans, and we were born to communicate.

Next time you are in public at the grocery store, in line at the gas station, or alone in Panera, don't be scared to have a conversation with a random person.

Look at the world as if it is open and there are other people around you. Don't only look forward and zone out those people standing next to you.You never know what person you will meet, what conversation you will get into, or how far it will go.

Try it out

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
