Spanish in Latin America: where to go?

Travelling is one of the most rewarding experiences in life, and what if we mix it with learning languages? Spain is not the only possible destination for improving your Spanish. In fact, Latin America offers a wide range of landscapes and different accents to know.

If you feel curious about meeting natives and getting in touch with another culture, give it a go to travelling!

Learn Spanish: in Argentina

Travel can only be considered meaningful if it is culturally enriched. Learn Spanish in the Andean Cordillera is definitely an unforgettable experience.

Now, skim the cities and countries just to take pictures of buildings and see museums interested less and less people.
Travelers in this digital 2.0 world are more interested in ecotourism, sustainable development and language learning. So do a language exchange to learn Spanish quickly in Argentina! Spanish Programs In Buenos Aires are very popular between tourists this days.

An Argentinian experience

The best way to learn Spanish is total immersion, to discover Hispanic language and culture in the best conditions.

In host families, in homestays - even in Airbnb, that's enough -, conversing with the hosts helps to better memorize and assimilate the specificities of the language: grammar rules, Spanish conjugation, vocabulary, accent tonic, for example.

Also discover Argentinean history, Argentine tango - and we will already master some common phrases in very little of time.

About this country Argentina is a big country -

2 791 819 km² sheltering 44.3 million inhabitants. It is also the third largest power of the continent after Brazil and Mexico.

Argentina has the area of influence where European culture is most prevalent, because of its recent history: around the years 1890-1900, Buenos Aires - and Montevideo in Uruguay - become the privileged land of immigration of Europeans, including thousands of Italians, hoping to find a new El Dorado.

They pile up in the suburbs of Buenos Aires, rub shoulders with the already mixed populations - African-American natives, etc. - and their descendants create a new style of music that will have a global success and will make its nobility in the Parisian directory of the 1920s: the Argentine tango.

At the same time, the Italian language penetrates Spanish, so that many words of Argentinian Spanish have particular sounds today: the sound "che", the absence of the letter "Ll" are the most faithful examples .

Between the high mountains of the Andean Cordillera, glaciers and national parks, neighborhoods of Buenos Aires: you will not be bored by taking Spanish classes in Argentina.

Become Spanish speaking in Mexico or Colombia? Both!

Mexico and Colombia both have a heavy history of violence and crimes related to the war against drug trafficking: clashes between cartels, conflicts between the DEA, the government, far-right paramilitary groups, banks, guerrillas and drug traffickers ...
These are the ingredients of an armed conflict that tarnish the tourist aura of these two jewels of Latin America. In 2018, 33,341 people were shot dead in Mexico, recording a new record of homicides.

Yet these countries remain tourist and tourists and foreign students are not targeted!

Mexico, a great place for improving Spanish

Mexico is close to 40 million visitors in 2017: between the Maya, Toltec and Zapotec archeological sites, the tropical climate and the paradisiacal beaches of the Caribbean coast, the incredible wealth of Mexican culture, there are indeed many reasons to visit Mexico.

Take Spanish classes, improve your oral comprehension, go from a beginner level to an intermediate level - even an advanced level -, what do you think?

Whether in individual lessons or group lessons, we can totally consider a language trip to Mexico City, Oaxaca or Playa del Carmen.

What about Colombia?

To take beginner Spanish courses, we will have even more security in Colombia: the country has largely pacified and turned the page of its bloody past linked to the Cartels of Medellín - led by Pablo Escobar until 1993 - and of Calí, led by the Rodriguez brothers.

The Colombian accent is reputed, with the Mexican accent, to be one of the easiest to understand. The Colombian accent is one of the most neutral in Bogotá.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
