Sowing Seeds

Are you sowing wonderful or worthless seeds

Sowing Seeds

It seems far too often as college students we become so absorbed in endless amounts of things, whether it be sports, social clubs, classes, friends, Netflix, or any number of things. We all seem to be able to participate in extracurricular things with ease and passion, but what about when it comes to our spiritual life? Do we have the same drive? Do we carry the same ease and passion?

Take for instance an apple. If you cut into an apple, you will find seeds, and if you plant those seeds, you will overtime have a tree which bears other apples that contain their own seeds. This process will continue until, of course, there are no more apple seeds to plant to continue the population.

Christians work the same way, believe it or not. We are each like an apple containing seeds. Our seeds are how we spend our time and how we spend our time determines what kind of apples our tree bears. This will in turn affect the fruits in our trees, which will then affect soil around us as the seeds become planted. A Christian who is lukewarm, one person here, another person somewhere else, are these kind of seeds. When they go to bring people to Christ or to help a Brother or Sister who is lost, their words have no impact because their seeds have rotted, leaving their fruits falling to the ground. As their hypocritical attitudes spread all around them as they influence the fruits of many others, the good fruits or Christians seem to dwindle away.

However, if we fill our seeds with good things, our tree will produce good apples with seeds that are bountiful. These seeds, when scattered, will scatter the good news wherever they are taken. These are the Christians who you can see Christ radiating through no matter what they are facing or having to overcome. These are the Christians that when they tell you, “I will be praying for you,” are actually lifting your name up to the Creator. These are the Christians who we are all called to be. These Christians seeds produce a bountiful tree full of the abundance of their labors, which spreads like wildfire to hungry souls. This energy will spread to other seeds who need something to spark their growth into this life-giving tree. That Christians, saves lives.

It seems as college students we become so absorbed in little things that seem to be the most important things in the world right now—classes, friends, social media, clubs—but do they really matter? We have been giving the watering vessel to plant our seeds to grow other peoples' apple trees into towering ones that illuminate their Creator. We become so absorbed in what we will do in ten years from now, what we want to do when we grow up, or how we will get an A in this Chemistry class, but does all that really matter. God created you. And when God created you, he gave you a purpose and I can promise that purpose was not to graduate with a Masters in X, Y,or Z. He created you to take the fruits He lent you and plant seeds. If we get to Heaven and all we can say is “Well God, I am sorry I didn't make that much time for you I was working on my Masters or I was playing an Intramural game or I was studying or I had to be up to date with all my Friends.” I don't think we are going to like the outcome. Make time for God, I beg you. He didn't create us for all the little things that we let consume our time, He created us to serve, love, and worship Him. So what kind of apple will you be? One that bears seeds or sorrow?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
