A Southern Girl's Guide To Take On Fall

How do you experience seasons in a place that doesn't really have any?

Being the southern girl that I am from a state that is literally always hot seasons like fall are a little hard to get the whole feeling.

It's official. Weather is getting cooler, the leaves are falling, the breeze is blowing, and pumpkin spice is in full effect. We ALL know what this means. As of Sept. 22nd, fall is officially here, ladies and gentlemen. That warm and cozy feeling that we have all come to love is here to stay. So what does that mean for all of us? Being a southern girl, I don't really get to experience all of the wonderful things that fall has to offer. I mean yes it gets cold and leaves fall and change colors and all that good stuff but that's about it. Realistically, it really only gets at its lowest to about the 30's and that on a good day at about 3 am. SO with that being said I am here to take you through a southern girl's guide to fall time fun.

Find out all of your favorite things about the season.

This sounds like such a random and kind of irrelevant part of it but you would be surprised how little people actually know about what they like about the season or how much this time of year actually brings. For example one person loves the cold weather and the smell of the fall breeze. For all of you fashion killa's out there they love the cute clothes that you get to wear. Just sit down with some friends and find what speaks to you!

Make an effort to embrace all of the fall things in your surroundings.

Fall is literally EVERYWHERE. It's in the air, it's on the ground, it's in our stores, on our phones, it's in our houses, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT! Go outside and take in the fresh air. Let the chill go through your body on one of those breezy fall nights. Go to starbucks and get one of those infamous pumpkin spice lattes. Go take a walk and crunch over those fallen leaves or make a pile of them and jump into it. (actually, that second part sounds kind of dangerous so maybe we don't do that.)

Do any and all fall activities that you can think of.

There are literally hundreds of fall related things that you can do to get you in the fall mood. There's always the cliché pumpkin carving, haunted house and bonfire ideas but think outside of the box! You could do a really cute photoshoot with all of the beautiful fall colors. You could go exploring through your neighborhood or local park. With our ability and access to all of these different technological things we can sit down for 2 minutes and come up with a hundred different things that you could do. So grab a group of friends and get out there and do them! The memories that you make you will never forget.

Enjoy the time while it's here.

Time in general goes by really fast and living in a southern state the time we have to do they typical falls things that the other northern states may do becomes limited due to the fact that weather here isn't exactly ideal for some of the typically fall things that everyone else in those northern states would normally do. But, even with that being said there are still so many opportunities to do stuff. Don't make weather or time an excuse. Don't think about it just do it. It doesn't matter where you're from or what surrounds you, find something and be a part of it. Live your life, learn something new about yourself, fall in love with fall. Hopefully some of the things that I've listed above help some of you other southern friends of mine with some new ideas or ways to have a great time during my favorite time of the year.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
