Southern California Christmases are much different than Christmases around the country. A White Christmas is only seen in movies and dogs get put in sweaters the second it drops below 65 degrees. Christmas throughout the country is usually filled with cold weather and shoveling snow.
Christmas in Southern California calls for lights on palm trees and inflatable Santas on front lawns in a sad attempt to seem more festive. There is nothing wrong with the fact that there is more sand than snow involved in our Christmas. Just because our Christmas is different than others doesn't mean it is any less special.
Spending time with our family under our lights and mistletoe is the same as everyone else's. The most important factors of Christmas are still alive no matter where we are geographically. Ripping though pretty wrapping on Christmas morning next to the fireplace is just as special in Southern California. The real important things about the holiday season are the friends and family you are with and honoring whichever holiday you celebrate. Stuffed stockings and cookies left next to the fireplace are consistent traditions.
Going to see Christmas lights does not require getting bundled up in gloves and scarves, You can easily stroll dow Candy Cane Lane in a sweatshirt and jeans. No matter how old you get, spending the holiday season in Southern California is special in it's own, unique way.
