I Sought After Peacefulness
Life Mission

We each aim to be successful in life, to feel important, loved, and so much more. We want to be the best and to see the best in others. But sometimes we fall short. Opportunities may have gotten ripped away from us while new doors were opened for us. Or maybe we gave our heart away and it was violently ripped to pieces, or we learned that some of the closest people around us are only enemies. Sometimes we lack what it takes to be who we need to be, and that hurts. It causes us to doubt who we are and where we are in this journey we call life. But something I have learned many times is that we need to be at peace with the situation. Peacefulness is a feeling of no conflict or commotion. To be at peace, does not mean that there is not conflict, but that we are not allowing that conflict to deteriorate who we are. Many times when life throws us a curve ball, we completely lose ourselves, and that does not compensate for anything. However, it is when we choose to be strong in who we are and push ourselves towards what is right, that we find out how great peacefulness truly is. It is always easy to do what the world would want us to do, to give up and allow our enemies to pick us apart on the floor. But it takes a strong individual to stand up and sweep away the dirt and pain and stride towards the next best thing. Seeking peacefulness is not easy;it is actually one of the hardest things to do. Personally, in my own life, there are many situations that I have endured that took every part of me to get through. Looking back at every moment, I gradually see a strong woman who did not allow those situations to demolish who she is. There is a saying, “What does not kill you, makes you stronger.” Even though it is not accepted on the best of terms, it serves true to my own life. There were many moments when I wanted to give up, and in a few ways I did. But there are also many situations where I stayed strong, and I made it. Along the way, I did lose a part of myself, and my heart was filled with pain I cannot truly explain. I am a bit bitter because I assume that I will always be left disappointed. But I sought after peacefulness, and I found it eventually. But being at peace with your life does not make your life any easier. It only allows you to be content with what you have and where you are currently at this very moment in your life. Sometimes, that is the best that we can do. Because we have no control over our future, we cannot change what happened in the past, and all that we have is the present because life is a gift; the least that we can do is to live in the moment.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
