I once read an article where an author explained the theory of women excessively apologizing for most things in their life. This was always something that I thought I was pretty self aware of but I've began to realize I fall victim way too much.
Throughout the day we come in contact with many situations where a small verbal exchange is the only form of communication within that interaction. We crack a smile, speak a greeting and we are on with our day... The term "sorry" is becoming too nonchalant — at least for me.
For example I often find myself apologizing for dumb things that are clearly not my fault.
1. Saying sorry to the person behind me in the coffee line after I order... Why?
2. Saying sorry for getting in an almost crowded elevator. I mean we could've all taken the stairs.
3. Saying sorry for bumping into that person on the street even though they're the one who can't master the art of walking and texting.
4. Moving out of the way for someone who is not even near me and saying sorry.
5. Saying sorry for not being able to attend something that I really didn't want to attend.
6. Saying sorry for getting in the little kids way on the razor scooter even though he can't drive.
7. Saying sorry when a restaurant messes up your order. Not your fault.
8. Apologizing for being a certain way that is just part of your character.
9. Apologizing for making a bold move. It took strength and you have it.
The list definitely goes on but for now this will do. Be self aware, be yourself.
