Hey Hollywood, Stop Portraying Sorority Women Poorly

Sorority women are independent, fierce leaders. Seriously, don't cross us.

Hey Hollywood, Stop Portraying Sorority Women Poorly
Alexa DeClue

I'm going, to be honest, I had no intentions of joining Greek life at my college because I had the idea that it was going to be exactly like it was in Hollywood movies. These superficial, rich, popular girls would greet me and have an unintelligent conversation that I would quickly want to abandon. But here's the thing, Hollywood portrayed it all wrong, shocker, right? These girls were not like they were in "Legally Blonde" or "House Bunny." Let us get one thing straight, sorority girls are not stupid, like at all. Sororities often have the bar set higher for GPA than the University-wide GPA; the numbers don't lie!

Meeting women who are passionate about getting involved and making the community better is an undeniably, incredible feeling. Not to mention, speaking with them makes you feel empowered, not ready to have the conversation over a soon as it starts. These aren't the type of girls that are just going to sit back and watch the world go by as they paint their nails. These are women of action and change, one's that shouldn't be second guessed. So Hollywood, why do you continually degrade us and make us seem like airheads with our minds stuck up in la-la land? It needs to stop because those girls that you are trying to portray, they don't exist.

Sure, we care about our looks but we're girls...we do that every once in awhile. But honestly, you could find me in one of my oversized shirts that makes it look like I am not wearing pants, vegging out on some pizza. Because food outweighs every other option by a landslide (fries before guys?). Sorority women are independent, fierce leaders. Seriously, don't cross us.

Stop giving women that are entering college these unrealistic thoughts of what Greek life is like. Women are already self-conscious about how they look thanks to social media and Hollywood, again. Though paying money hurts the wallet a little bit (a lot at times), the experiences that are gained are priceless. Meeting new people in college should not be hindered because a girl is terrified of going through recruitment and get turned into a robot Barbie.

I think I speak on behalf of sorority women everywhere when I say Hollywood, cut the crap. Sorority women are a force to be reckoned with. And at the end of the day, we out hustle everyone around us. So stop portraying us as weak and unintelligent, it's not true. Who runs the world?

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
