Your sorority's executive board does a lot of work behind closed doors. Every sorority and every exec board is different, but I bet almost every sorority exec has the same feelings throughout their year long term. Here are some confessions from a sorority exec member.
We love this chapter. I know that seems obvious and cheesy, but it's a true statement. We couldn't spend hours in meetings and late nights in the chapter room if we didn't truly love out chapter. We know that the chapter would not run smoothly or excel without our hard work and we are dedicated to do a lot for the chapter.
We also hate the chapter at time. When we receive 30 texts about questions already answered or receive lame excuses, we get annoyed. We want you to get the most out of your sorority experience and not paying attention at chapter or ignoring our emails make our job a lot harder.
We know (almost) everything. Just because you didn't get a standards call or we didn't tell you to take down your Snapchat story, doesn't mean we don't know what you did this weekend. We know you danced on stage at that bar and we know you pre gamed that event. We think a lot of the stuff you do is comical and we share it with each other, even if you don't get in trouble for it.
Our meetings are comical. The amount of things we all need to discuss is ridiculous. It's not unusual if our meetings last longer than 2 hours. During these meetings we bring treats, laugh when we become delusional, and pull our hair out. We all sit around in sweatpants late at night discussing into way too much detail every little thing that involves that chapter. Not only do we have these exec meetings, but we have AAC Meetings, Panhellenic meetings, budget meetings, recruitment meetings; our lives are basically one giant meeting.
We live on our emails. Honestly, if you need to reach us it might be more beneficial to email us than text us. Once we respond we keep each email conveniently located in a specific folder in case we ever need to reference it again.
We hate talking to your parents. Please don't tell your mommy's and daddy's on us. I know sometimes its vital to get parents involved, but please come to us first. It gets really awkward when we receive angry calls, texts, and emails from random adults that live half way across the country.
Lastly, we love our jobs. As hard and thankless as our job can be we love it. We love spending countless hours with the rest of exec. We love getting to know each member much more. We love knowing everything thats going on in the chapter and the rest of the campus. We may be counting down the days to pass our positions down to the next exec, but we loved our jobs.
