Mother's Day and Father's Day. Two of the most celebrated Hallmark holidays in the year. Specifically, a time when social media goes haywire with celebratory and honor posts to all the working mothers and fathers out there.
Between the two Hallmark holidays, which one do you consider and value the most? Are you a total mama's girl or boy? Or how about daddy's little girl or your pop's grand ol' son? Did you grow up with a single parent your entire life? What about divorced or separated parents? Rather, did you have a deceased or unknown parental figure you never knew anything about?
In today's generation, families of all kinds undergo a variety of challenges, trials, fights, and issues. Sometimes, they're family secrets and hidden stories not told to children until they get older. Or it can be affairs. Most common, divorce and separation.
In the past two decades, divorce and separation have become two of the most common cycles. You hear and see fights blasting through social media, miscommunication between the opposite sexes, or just bad shit going crazy. That couple you may think looks super lavish and living the life can be the most miserable people on the inside. Or how about that fancy wedding of yours you may have invested your life savings towards about a year, three years, five, or even ten years ago? You can say goodbye to that and save up for a divorce lawyer (hence I kid).
Now, everyone has a variety of trials and challenges faced. Families, especially. If you are someone whose parents are the ultimate definition of marriage goals of 20 or more years, be grateful for what you have. They've stuck it through the good, bad, and downright ugly of all things. Most of all, they passed on important values that should be taken into wherever you go in life.
Now if you are someone who grew up with a single parent, such as myself, or have a stepparent of five to ten years or more, cherish them. Family is a sacred thing. Toast to all the fathers and mothers out there grinding and working their asses off in order to lead us a better life.
"Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it." Proverbs 22:6
