Oh, friends, where has summer 2014 gone? It seems like just yesterday we were cramming for finals and watching our friends walk across the Cistern to graduate. Alas, we are now already three weeks into July, and fall semester is just a few short weeks away. However, it’s never too late (or too early) to reflect on the top songs of the season.
No matter who you are, how old you are, where you are, or what you’re doing, you’re probably able to remember the songs you were rocking out to during the most memorable summers of your life. There’s just something about summertime, the beach, and riding down the highway blasting the speakers and singing at the top of our lungs. Here are a few of the songs that I think sum up summer 2014, thus far. Agree, disagree, listen, and let me know which songs you’ve been loving this summer!
"Rude" by Magic! I mean, c’mon. It’s currently the #1 top
song on Spotify, so it’s kind of a given. Plus, the reggae vibe is 100 percent of the
summertime feel, ya dig?
"Summer" by Calvin Harris. I mean, duh.
"Boom Clap" by Charlie XCX. This one was actually on the
soundtrack to The Fault In Our Stars, but the upbeat sound couldn’t be more
different than the melancholy spirit of the film.
"Shower" by Becky G. I love this song. My roommates hate that
I love this song, but I love this song. I have no idea who Becky G is, she’s
probably about 14, but I love this song. If you haven't already, just listen.
"Stay High" (remix) by Tove Lo. It’s like the same three
lines over and over again, but it’s awesome. A fun party game is
trying to decipher what those three lines actually are.
"I’m Ready" by AJR. I might have been the last person to
realize that this song samples SpongeBob’s voice, but regardless, great summer
song. Catchy.
"Feels Like Summer" by Panama Wedding. This band is pretty
new and much lesser known than the other songs on this list, but you have to
check them out. “Uma” is another great song. They are the epitome of the
easy-going, chill, summer band persona.
"Fancy" by Igga Azalea. No comment. I really didn’t want to
have to put this song on here, but you know I do. It is what it is. First things first, she's the realest.
Please let us know what songs have been your favorites this summer!
