Nothing goes better with summer than spending time on the water with good friends, good drinks, and even better tunes. Let's flash back to the songs of summer from 2007 to 2017.
2007
"Hey There Delilah" - Plain White T's
<span id="selection-marker-2" class="redactor-selection-marker"> </span>
Don't lie. You just started singing. 2007 was a good year for music, other summer songs include "Girlfriend" by Avril Lavigne, "Makes Me Wonder" by Maroon 5, and "Umbrella" by Rihanna
2008
"I Kissed A Girl" - Katy Perry
It was scandalous and we all definitely haven't stopped using cherry chapstick since. Other 2008 songs of summer include, "Leavin'" by Jesse McCartney, "Dangerous" by Akon, "Forever" by Chris Brown, "Bleeding Love" by Leona Lewis and "Pocket Full of Sunshine" by Natasha Bedingfield
2009
"Knocks You Down" - Keri Hilson
<span id="selection-marker-1" class="redactor-selection-marker"></span>
This was the year that began listening to songs about relationships we didn't even know existed yet. Good times. Other '09 songs of summer? "Love Game" by Lady Gaga, "Best I Ever Had" by Drake, "You Belong With Me" by Taylor Swift, and "Waking Up In Vegas" by Katy Perry.
2010
"California Gurls" - Katy Perry
The perfect summer tune in every way. Jeeps with the top down? California beaches? Snoop Dog? Sold. Other songs of summer from 2010 (if you need them) are, "Love The Way You Lie" by Eminem and Rihanna, "Airplanes" by B.o.B and Haley Williams, "OMG" by Usher and Will.i.am and "Dynamite" by Taio Cruz.
2011
"Rolling In The Deep" - Adele
In the midst of a lot of party/dance music, there was Adele (and Thank God for that). Not feelin' it? Here's more from 2011: "Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO, "Super Bass" by Nicki Minaj, "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F) by Katy Perry, and "The Lazy Song" by Bruno Mars.
2012
"Call Me Maybe" - Carly Rae Jepsen
Maybe you hated it, maybe you tried really hard to hate it, either way you listend and when no one was with you - you jammed to it all alone in the car. It's okay, we all did. Other songs from the summer we thought would be our last (remember when the world was supposed to end?): "Payphone" by Maroon 5, "Somebody That I Used To Know" by Gotye, "Wide Awake" by Katy Perry, "Lights" by Ellie Goulding and "We Are Young" by FUN.
2013
"Blurred Lines" - Robin Thicke
Robin's hit was definitely the life of the party and this song was "thicke" with controversy. Still a jam though. More songs from summer 2013 are, "We Can't Stop" by Miley Cyrus, "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams, "Treasure" by Bruno Mars, and "Cups" by Anna Kendrick.
2014
"Fancy" - Iggy Azalea
Not only a killer jam but the video references arguably one of the best movies of all time - Clueless. Watch it on Netflix and listen to some more summer '14 tunes while you search: "Rude" by MAGIC!, "Problem" by Ariana Grande, "Stay With Me" by Sam Smith and "Am I Wrong" by Nico & Vinz.
2015
"See You Again" - Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth
If you didn't get a little emotional when you first heard this song (or watched The Fast and The Furious 7) are you even real? If you aren't too busy with all of your feelings now (sorry about that) check these out: "Bad Blood" by Taylor Swift, "Can't Feel My Face" by The Weekend, "Trap Queen" by Fetty Wap, and "Fight Song" by Rachel Platten.
2016
"One Dance" - Drake
"This Is What You Came For" by Calvin Harris ft. Rihanna almost knocked Drake out of the number one spot. This song just makes you want to dance. Get moving with these top summer 2016 song contenders: "Work From Home" by Fifth Harmony, "Closer" by The Chainsmokers, "Don't Mind" by Kent Jones, "679" by Fetty Wap, and "Can't Stop The Feeling" by Justin Timberlake.
2017
"Malibu" - Miley Cyrus
Girlfriend has made a HUGE 180 and her comeback deserves recognition. But summer '17 has only just started so add these tunes to your beach playlist: "I'm the One" by DJ Khaled, "No Vacancy" One Republic, "Something Just Like This" by The Chainsmokers, "Remember I Told You" by Nick Jonas, and "That's What I Like" by Bruno Mars.
Jam on party people.
