11 Songs Guaranteed To Motivate You During Finals

Studying for finals is testimony of your mental stamina -- a testament to your hard work, determination, and ability to slum it in sweatpants for an entire week. However, a stirring silence that spans your never-ending study sesh will drive you to insanity rather than that A you're striving for. Though it's probably not the best idea to blare Adele's "Hello" when you're trying to re-read your macroeconomics textbook, it is extremely necessary to take breaks -- and in my opinion, the best release from the strong grip of your gnawing stress, is to jam out, belt out the words to your favorite song, and dance a lil'. The following songs might not be your favorites, and at any other time they might seem unnecessary, but in times of light deprivation, lack of socialization, and coffee crashes, you need the most uplifting, poppy songs to get you through the week.

1. "Stronger" by Kanye West

You need to be motivated when you start studying. This song never fails to pump someone up.

2. "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey

Revert to your middle school self, pretend you're at a CYO dance and belt out these lyrics. The cheesy songs -- so corny they're almost annoying -- are the ones that will force your nose back into the books with a warm cheesy sense of motivation and purpose.

3. "Mean" by Taylor Swift

Pretend you're singing to that one professor who makes you feel stupid.

4. "Lose Yourself" by Eminem

You're going to get a little angsty -- hangry, tired -- and Eminem is the king of angst. Remember, "You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow."

5. "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" by Kelly Clarkson

You will make it through finals, and you'll know you're smarter than you were three months ago.

6. "Compass" by Lady Antebellum

You're definitely going to feel mentally lost at some point while studying, so remember that in order to follow your dreams, you'll need to pass this exam. Seek out friends, TAs, and professors when you're feeling a little stuck.

7. "Fight Song" by Rachel Patten

"Prove I'm all right." That's the spirit! A C-minus is all right, right?

8. "Firework" by Katy Perry

Please tell me you remember the moves to this from the game "Just Dance" -- because the dancing is a vital component to this song if you want it to effectively revamp your mental stamina.

9. "Jar of Hearts" by Christina Perri

So you might not have an ex-boyfriend who treated you like dirt, but your final exams will definitely leave some scars. Despair after hours of studying is kind of like a breakup -- kind of. But anyway, this song will never fail to make you realize you deserve happiness -- and acing that test will definitely make you happy.

10. "Out of the Woods" by Taylor Swift

Yep, I'll probably be playing a good amount of T-Swizzle during finals week.

11. "Hello" by Adele

At the end of the week you will be able to say, "Hello from the other side."

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
