2. Seriously questioning your existence: Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day

It's the first day of class and you already feel like you're dying after reading through the syllabus of your first class. You're assigned three online homework assignments and 103 pages to read due tomorrow and a test next Tuesday. Maybe college isn't as great as you thought it was. You continue to walk across campus, your broken dreams of a high GPA and graduating on time are left on the sidewalk behind you.

3. Where's mom???: Mama by Alaina Davis

It’s your first weekend on campus and… you have to do laundry. But how? You find yourself reading the directions off the Tide box of laundry detergent, wishing your mom were there to help you sort whites from reds. You have so many questions but really, all you want to do give your mom a hug. After you listen to this song, you might find yourself crying in a corner about how the lunch lady doesn't make grilled cheese like your mom, or how your detergent doesn't smell like your house anymore. (Pro tip: calling your mom WILL make your day 1000x better.)

4. First college party: I Love College by Asher Roth

The moment idolized in every college movie ever. It’s… your FIRST COLLEGE PARTY. Complete with all-you-can-drink beer, drunk junior girls, and extremely crammed rooms. Congrats, you made it. Better live it up while you can!

5. First college exam: Shake It Off by Taylor Swift

Even if you were a straight A student in high school, college is challenge you in ways you could never be prepared for. Professors could care less how great your intensions are. They don't give reminders and expect so much more than high school teachers do. Don't be surprised when your first test score comes back WAY lower than your expectations. It's okay, everyone fails their first college exam, at least that's what everyone told me.

6. FRAT BOYS!: Crazy in Love by Beyoncé

They're jerks, they're probably drunk (for sure if it's Thursday-Sunday), and they know how to talk to a girl. What's a freshman girl not going to love? Freshman year is when it's completely okay to get a bit tipsy and be totally into the guy pouring your drink.

7. Going home for the first time: House that Built Me by Miranda Lambert

Going home for the first time is truly a weird experience. Whether you're driving through town or attending a football game, it's strange to see that life has gone on without you. It's a humbling experience to remember where you grew up over the years. Everything looks familiar, but it's not your home anymore.

8. Midterms: Livin' on a Prayer by Bon Jovi

Go to class, study hard and say your prayers to anyone that will listen because your GPA depends on this midterm exam. On the plus side, you're halfway there!

9. Realization that boys haven't grown up: Forget You by Cee Lo Green

Okay, so that frat boy you met earlier in the year, yeah, he still sucks as much as any guy in high school did. You realize quickly that the only thing frat boys want is alcohol, sex, and more alcohol. Maybe if you meet guys outside of the parties, you’ll have a better chance at finding the good ones. But for now, forget them and enjoy being a beautiful, confident young woman.

10. No money: Bills by LunchMoney Lewis

It’s late in the semester. You have taken the term “poor college student” to a new level due to four things: Food, alcohol, cover fees, and all those totally cute sorority t-shirts you just had to have. Your struggles now might be your motivation to show up to class and focus at least a portion of your life in school so you don't have to work for minimum wage your whole life.

11. Ongoing cycle of tiredness: Tired as F*uck by The Staves

College is pulling 3+ all-nighters in a row, living off of coffee, and getting through class only because you promised yourself a nap afterward. Sometimes you call it a successful day because you only napped once.

12. Love/hate relationship with college: I Hate College by Sammy Adams

Contrary to popular belief, college is much more than parties every weekend and having tons of fun. College is as much painfully awful as it is fantastic. No one really talks about the amount of homework, stress and the lack of sleep most college students receive. Since the holiday season and winter break is just around the corner, make sure to bake yourself some cookies and watch unnecessary amounts of Netflix. You made it through the first semester of college-- now you can make it through everything!
