Sometimes It's Okay To Be Selfish

You have to lead your own life.

Sometimes It's Okay To Be Selfish
Erica Carbajal

Sometimes it's completely okay to be selfish! There are definite times when YOU have to put YOU before anyone else. This doesn't have to be frowned upon and it shouldn't be such a controversial concept because to live a happy, rewarding life you have to start with yourself.

Now, I'm not saying you shouldn't do meaningful favors for people in your life, or completely ignore everyone's advice. However, when it comes to huge aspects of your own life that are going to impact your future, it ultimately has to come down to your own decision that hasn't been influenced by anyone but yourself. For example important decisions in your life like choosing where to go to college, what you want to do with your life, and where you want to end up are instances where you most definitely can get away with being selfish (if that's what you want to call it). No one else is going to go to college for you, or live your future so the decisions should be what make most sense to you and your aspirations.

If people constantly took into consideration what their parents, friends, significant other, etc. wanted, then the decisions would no longer truly be their own and they would lose their purpose and personal drive in the process. It's impossible to fulfill what several different groups of people want for you anyways.

You have to lead your own life and even though others may tell you that you should take into account their advice or experience, your future depends on your decisions now.

What I'm saying is if there is something you want to do that will positively impact your well-being or your future, do it! Whether that be taking an internship, job, moving, or just taking time for yourself, don't second guess it because of others and their doubts.

Too often I've seen people put everyone else's opinions on their future before their own desires and wishes, and although you may not see it now, it will hold you back.

So don't be afraid to put your own gut decisions about significant aspects of your future first, because it's just that: yours.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
