It has been said that, once you find the right one, you realize why nothing worked out with the others. I’m a firm believer in the idea that everything, and every relationship, has a place in our lives. No matter how bad it ended, it taught me something. Taught me about what I deserve. Taught me about respecting myself more. I learned from each and every one, no matter how good or bad it ended. I appreciated it, because it became part of my story. But having a better opportunity? There’s something sweet about it, even if it is bittersweet to start over.
There’s something about being with the, seemingly, right person after everything else went wrong. You wonder why you settled for anything less than what you currently have. You wonder why you accepted empty compliments and promises and held onto them with a death grip because they were few and far between. Now, compliments are genuine. They’re frequent and real and honest, even at 3 AM when there’s a tired, comfortable silence. Don’t settle for anything less.
There’s something about not having to walk on eggshells, because being with the right one is like being with your best friend. You can be yourself. The guard can fall down at your feet. Be wild. Be crazy. Be reserved, even. Whatever you are, it doesn’t matter, because they love you, regardless.
Be with someone who is proud of you. Be with someone who will tell the whole world that you are theirs, given the chance. Be with your biggest fan.
Be with someone who you can laugh with. Please, pick the one who can make you smile on your worst day, but who can also hold you and let you lose yourself.
Be with someone who makes you excited for the future. Be with the person who comes into your life and makes you realize that two successful people are better together than apart.
Be with someone who makes you love the simple things. Be with someone who makes you realize that love isn’t something you need to fight for. Not now, and not ever. Be with someone who makes you realize that fighting for love in the past was so wrong.
When you love the right person, you finally know why it didn’t work with anyone else. Be with someone who will always choose you.
