Learning to cook can be a very stressful time for some people, but it's really not as difficult as it may seem. Sometimes the cooking shows on TV can become overwhelming and make you look like an amateur. However, whether you've never even attempted to cook or are already a cooking wizard, there is always room to learn something new. Here are a few tips for anyone looking to improve their cooking skills:
1. Practice, practice, practice!
Never just try to make a dish and then get disappointed when it isn't what you expected. There is going to be trial and failure, but the only way you will end up being successful is by trying.
2. Watch videos of other people cooking
You can watch the Food Network or the Cooking Channel on TV, or you can even watch videos of people cooking on YouTube. By doing this, you will be able to learn some cooking terms that you may see in a recipe, and you will be able to see some of their techniques so you can try them out.
3. Invest in a cookbook that interests you
Head out to the store and find a cookbook that has recipes that you think you will enjoy. This way you will be more motivated to cook because you have dishes that interest you. You can even look up some recipes online if there is something specific you want to try out.
4. Check out some cooking videos online
When you're on your phone check out some cooking videos that may be on Facebook or even Instagram. I always find myself on Facebook watching cooking videos to simple recipes, like on Tasty. They just pop up on my newsfeed and they're always so interesting. I also watch videos on YouTube about cake decorating. These give me some great recipes and definitely motivate me to try something new.
5. Use easy-to-use tools
Don't go out and invest in some expensive and overly complicated cooking tools when you first start cooking. Sure, down the road they may help with what you're cooking, but for now just be minimal. There are many techniques to get the same job done when you're in the kitchen.
6. Don't just "wing it"
Especially if you've never cooked something before, make sure you follow the recipe and measure out you're ingredients. This will ensure that your dish turns out exactly how it's supposed to. So get out your measuring cups and mixing bowls!
7. Start off with simple recipes
Don't just jump in to a complicated recipe that involves terms that you need to Google, like "julienne" or "dredge." Start off simple with some foods that you enjoy and don't involve anything too complicated or frustrating.
