Stop broadcasting them on the media.

Producing endless newscasts on the shootings glamorize the incidents and gives people the idea to do the same. It encourages other people to start shootings of their own.

After the mass shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, students in the Central York School District, Manheim Township High School, and Eastern Lancaster County School District were charged for making terroristic threats to the school. What are the chances these sociopathic students saw all of the broadcasts and thought it would be funny to mimic the Parkland, Florida incident? Highly likely. They thought if another student could do it, then surely they could do it too. It's an easy way to get attention.

The exact reasons for these students to make such threats can vary. Perhaps these students were neglected and wanted to get some kind of revenge. Perhaps they were neglected and wanted attention. They wanted to make the news, too.

If news channels stopped broadcasting the stories of mass shootings, not near as many people would get the idea to bring a gun to school or make threats.

Do you know how many people commit suicide by jumping off the Ben Franklin bridge in Philadelphia each year? Not many people do. The city makes sure it doesn't get advertised. Why? So hundreds - maybe thousands - more people don't get the same idea and take the deadly jump. Philadelphia does not glamorize the incidents.

Perhaps, if the media kept all these mass shootings a little quieter, other people would not follow suit. STOP GLAMORIZING MASS SHOOTINGS.

Depression and suicide are also glorified in today's society. People write stories about people being depressed and committing suicide and readers say they are "so beautiful" for being sad and empty. How messed up is that?

Suicide is not beautiful. Depression is not beautiful. I've lost enough close friends to suicide to know that it is NOT BEAUTIFUL. It's heart-wrenching. It knocks you down and kicks you in the chest. As you're curled in a ball on the floor, it kicks you again and again. Yet we keep glamorizing it and praising it.

So why do we keep glamorizing mass shootings with walkouts and marches and protests? If the media stopped broadcasting so much coverage, the tragedies just might subside. I understand this may not be a fool-proof plan, but it could greatly help our society and its issue with gun laws and mental health.

At this point in our battle against gun violence, almost any idea could be a good solution. Let's get this idea out there, give it a try, and see how it goes. We won't know if it will work or not until we give it a go.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
