Go See 'Solo,' And Give It A Chance Before You Judge It

Sorry, you can't have an opinion on a movie unless you've actually seen it

I, like many people, was extremely wary of "Solo: A Star Wars Story" when the trailer was first released during this year's Super Bowl. If I'm being honest, I wasn't too thrilled at the idea of getting a whole movie dedicated to Han Solo's backstory because I liked him the way he was already. I enjoyed the ambiguity and mystery surrounding his character, and I was concerned that this film would take that away from him.

You may as well color me surprised because I was extremely wrong about this movie. This film was phenomenal, and Alden Ehrenreich's performance gave me a whole new appreciation for Han Solo, and it gave me a greater dislike for Kylo Ren for killing him in "The Force Awakens." "Solo" gave more depth to this beloved character, and it causes fans, if they didn't know already, to realize that Han Solo is a really good guy and not always the scoundrel that we know him to be.

Of course Ehrenreich is not Harrison Ford, but he sure does make a great young Han Solo. If you're one of the millions of people who are the reason behind the low box office numbers, I am begging you to reconsider because "Solo" really isn't as bad as fans are making it out to be.

After seeing "Solo," I went back home and saw that "Return of the Jedi" was on TV, and even after seeing it thousands of times, I watched it again just to compare Ehrenreich's performance to Ford's; it was not a let-down at all because it's not an impersonation of Ford. Ehrenreich made the character his own all the while staying true to the original, and this film makes Han Solo an even more developed character than he was before.

Ehrenreich carries the same swagger and attitude that we know the character to have, and there are plenty of nods to the original trilogy. There's an explanation to that small plot hole about the way Billy Dee Williams says Han with the hard 'A' for why the Millennium Falcon is always referenced in the feminine, and there's references to the Hutt family that hints toward the criminal relationship we see in the beginning of "A New Hope." There's plenty of Easter Eggs, and if you're looking for nostalgia, then you're definitely going to find it in this movie.

Even though I enjoyed this movie, I know there are a great deal of people who are slandering it. After leaving the movie theatre, I looked up articles and went on various social media platforms to see what critics thought and there were mixed reviews. However, after looking at the comments (and I think we all know that the comment section can often be a very negative place to be in) I saw that so many people absolutelyhate this movie.

What bothered me is that these fans hated the movie and had no real reason to because they were blatantly stating that they haven't seen it, and have no intention of doing so for X,Y, and Z reasons.

I think we all know that the “Star Wars” boycott is very real, and so, there's a trend going on in the "Star Wars" community that has an attitude of slamming the movies without even seeing them. I think this is also heightened by how split fans were over "The Last Jedi," and there's reluctance about spending money to see a movie that may be a huge disappointment.

I know that many people are privy to this attitude at times, myself included, but I'm sure many fans took one look at the "Solo" trailer and said to themselves, "That looks like it's going to be terrible. I shouldn't even bother seeing it because Disney ruined 'Star Wars' anyway" (OK maybe not exactly like that, but you catch my drift).

I don't understand that. Am I wrong for saying that you can't have an opinion on a movie until you've actually seen it? If you are a fan of something, then why wouldn't you be excited about the new things that are coming out of it? There could be a 2 hour movie about Yoda just using the force to move rocks up and down on Dagobah, and I would still go see it before I started running my mouth about dumb it was.

There are many fans out there who are boycotting these new films either because they are insistent that nothing will be better than the original trilogy, or because they do not like how the universe is changing and developing into something new and different. They're nostalgic, which isn't a bad thing, but I know that no matter what I say there are going to be people who are dead-set on hating the new films, and "Solo" is no exception to this attitude.

Sure, the original trilogies were fantastic, but that doesn't mean that the films following them aren't worthy of the same praise.

Maybe these movies don't have the ideal plots and scenarios that fans had planned out in their heads, but let's take a step back and acknowledge how incredibly awesome it is that 41 years after "A New Hope" was released that we are still getting new films and that the universe is continuing to expand beyond what we ever thought was imaginable.

Maybe the box office numbers aren't due to boycotting fans; it could be because it came out Memorial Day weekend and there just wasn't time to go see it, or maybe this movie was overshadowed by the release of "Deadpool 2." I'm not sure of the real reason, but what I do know is that fans need to stop judging this movie before they even see it.

Give "Solo" a chance. I've got a really good feeling that fans will be surprised at just how great it is.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
