A Letter To Society

Why should we live life trying to be someone we are not?

Dear Society,

Imagine what life would be like if you were an ant. Following around other ants, doing what they expect of you, and aiming to not be the weakest link so the outside world does not crush you. Well society, that is how you are perceived to be.

We have become part of a world where you have to be a certain size in order to be considered beautiful, or to be taken seriously. You have to be a certain color in order to be liked by some. You have to be a particular political party to be allowed to have an opinion. And most importantly, you have to be someone that you are not in order for people to accept, and most importantly, love you.

So society, why is this? Why must we give the impression that someone should feel bad about himself or herself for eating the last slice of pizza, or that because someone may not be the best at something, they are not enough?

Well society, I say that you are enough. You are more than the people and negativity that brings you down. You are more than the jeans that you wore in high school that may not fit you anymore. You are more than the color of your skin or hair, and certainly much more than the outfits you pick out when you wake up in the morning. You are more than the exterior things that people may bring you down for, we are all worth more because of the people we choose to be.

Listen to yourself. You know what is best for you. Vote for the candidate that makes you happy regardless of who the person next to you is voting for, treat yourself to the foods that you crave, let yourself wear the outfit that may cause you to stick out in the crowd but makes you feel comfortable and most importantly, accept yourself. How is someone else supposed to accept you if you cannot even accept you for you?

Do not let the world get in the way of you being the best version of you.

Sincerely,

A member of your society

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
