Social networking vs. Community

Community Writing

Now that cell phones, email, social networking sites, and many other things are around it make it easier for us to communicate with each other but it also takes a toll on communication in person. On social networking sites it allows flexibility, which basically allows you to be talking to someone no matter where you are or what it is you are doing, by doing so social networking has opened a new community.

This new community isn't a bad thing, it's actually a good thing. However some might disagree because it's a lot different than doing things in person. Being able to attend meetings or other events while not physically having to be in the same room as the other person or people in the meetings can be very helpful. It's very time management. It allows for things to get done when they need to without having to struggle as much. If a person wanted to join a specific group of some sort and wouldn't be able to attend the meeting physically social networking allows that person to still attend no matter where as long as that person has internet access.

This new community has opened up more opportunities for people. It lets people meet other people from across the country without having to actually meet them in person. They can meet people who have similar interest. Meeting people who share the same interest in something can lead to bigger things. By creating a small group of people who have the same interest the group will continue to grow because the people already in that group might mention to other people who will maybe want to join the group which then just leads to a domino effect. Using social networking has given community so much more opportunities. It has allowed for communities to grow. It helps the community grow by strengthening business. By using social media to promote a business it allows for more people to see it which draws in more customers, which also can lead to customer loyalty.

As far as lowered standards of what community means social networking has just done the opposite. Social networking might not have the same effect on someone like doing things in person would but it still has an effect. Doing things on person isn't always the answer because it may not reach as many people as social networking sites do. Social networking sites just makes it easier for people to do things. It allows for more flexibility than in person does. However social networking may not be for everyone and that is ok but it also doesn’t mean that it’s a bad thing for the community.
