This is an amazing time to be an American. Regardless of whether these next four (or less) years end well or not, history is being made. I'll be the first to coin the phrase 'Political Avalanche'. Hopefully, it has not been taken already cause this phase of time will go into the history books and ya girl wants to be in there too. Because not only has this election and few weeks of presidency been messy, but we've been messy as Americans. The way this last election's gone, I believe I've seen a pig fly somewhere. And before you roll your eyes and think 'ugh, sensitive liberal snowflake' or get scared about being called one, here's a trend I've seen:
1. Many Trump voters are called leaners. Those are the supporters of Donald Trump who said they wouldn't be voting in order to be politically correct but voted for him in secret. Meanwhile, the snowflakes are outwardly standing for their beliefs even while being sneered at in secret by those who don't agree.
2. In several of my college class discussions when the floor was opened to discussion on constitutional interpretation, abortion, racial and gender rights it's always the sensitive snowflakes I hear speaking up. The only people I hear whispering are the ones whispering that others are sensitive snowflakes because they're too afraid to speak up themselves.
3. People protesting the fact we improperly teach the history of Thanksgiving, or upset that the only month we teach or even acknowledge black history is black history month are sensitive snowflakes. These delicate creatures are standing tall as a minority to a majority that screams whenever something against it's interests is bright to it's attention.
4. The women wanting rights TO THEIR OWN BODIES are being called sensitive snowflakes for standing up to the very people they have given life to with their own bodies.
Look at me speaking my mind, being a snowflake. If being sensitive means actually speaking your mind and not just taking shortcuts in secrecy to complete your own agenda, I'd much rather be a snowflake. Recently, I've identified my own self as a more liberal kind of person; and I don't even know if it's because I of the opinions I have or the fact that I have the ability to have opinions of my own. I came to college for conversation, to hear ideas and opinions other than my own, to be educated on the things outside of myself. I was ecstatic to be surrounded by such a diverse group of people that I'd get to hear opinions outside my own, outside of the people that agree with me.
But when I ask people with views contrary to mine I receive the same answers and they're always given in the form of a whisper from the guy behind me instead of a raised hand. And it's only repeats of what the very few shouters like Tomi Lauren say, regardless of her only repeating the ideals of her party most of the time. Unoriginal opinions are a waste of everyone's time and breath. I feel if original opinions existed more, and more people were willing to recognize there are lives, and culture, and a world outside of their own then the need to stand for and with each other as Americans would thrive more than the need to stand under one singular person as separate parties dividing us all.
Rant over. With that in mind, I don't just want to be a snowflake added into this political avalanche going downhill at an alarming rate. I want to be a snowflake to put out the flame of hate that is in the hearts of both sides. #SnowflakeForAmerica
