If April Showers Bring May Flowers, Then What Does Snow In March Bring?

I need the sun to shine. I need to dance in the rain. I need April showers to bring May Flowers.

If April Showers Bring May Flowers, Then What Does Snow In March Bring?
Erin Alzapiedi

I've lived in New England my entire life, so it's safe to say that I'm used to chilly spring weather. Many of my friends from high school have had the opportunity to go to warmer places and even other countries for spring break. I don't mind watching their expensive vacations unfold on social media while I'm at home, it's nice to see my family either way. However, I was not expecting to get 2 feet of snow over my spring break.

When I picture the ideal spring break at home it is full of rain showers, 65-degree days, and even a little bit of sunshine. I don't expect to spend time at the beach, that just doesn't happen when it's March in New England. Although, less than two weeks ago everyone was wearing shorts to class because it was 75 degrees and all of the buildings still had the heat turned on. I just want to be able to go outside and enjoy some sun in a light jacket.

That didn't happen. This break may have been the biggest joke yet, I know it is not technically Spring yet as I'm writing this, but is this much snow normal? I seem to remember many Spring vacations with light snow showers, but that was certainly not the case this year. I've spent the entire break inside trying to stay warm.

In the past week, there have been two major nor'easters. I could hear trees snapping in the woods all night. We have lost power for more than 48 hours between the two storms and I have shoveled snow that came up to my thighs. Really I just want to be thigh-deep in some ocean waves with a pair of sunglasses and my best friends. Maybe it's because I worked two jobs last summer and didn't have a lot of free time, or maybe it's because it's been so cold and dreary lately, but I have spring fever and I have it bad.

I want to go on day trips to the beach, even if it's too cold to swim. I want to sit on a blanket under a maple tree and read a book. I want to go out for ice cream and not have to wear 18 layers just to get out of the car. I want to pick the flowers that grow on my front lawn. I want to go berry picking and watch sunsets from the roof of my best friend's car.

The saying goes "April showers bring May flowers," but what does snow in March bring? This snow better change to rain real quick because I've packed my snow boots away and I don't think my toes can survive shoveling in rainboots again.

I love the snow. Skiing, sledding, and building snowmen are all regular activities where I grew up. Snow is fluffy, fun, and amazing, but it has a time and place. Hate to break it to you, Snow, but your time is up.

I need the sun to shine. I need to dance in the rain. I need April showers to bring May Flowers.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
