After just having my first snow day as a college student, I have found some huge similarities and differences between it and a snow day in high school.
1. When The Snow Day Is Cancelled
Unlike high school which was usually called off the night before, you do not have this same pleasure in college. The alert went out around 5 am, which made it so I still had to wake up early to my alarm. Although I was relieved to not have to go to classes, I would have rather known sooner.
2. What To Do During The Snow Day
In high school, snow days could be very lonely as sometimes the roads were too bad to be able to go and see your friends. In college, however, you can just walk to any dorm without any fear of having to drive on the roads!
3. Eating During A Snow Day
I remember my mom making me big meals at home to celebrate the day off during high school. At college, we were stuck with one close-by open dining hall, which was not only packed but seemed to be serving all of their leftover food. This caused many people to take advantage of Uber Eats.
4. Making Up For A Snow Day
The best part of a snow day in college is that you are not required to stay an extra day at the end of the year to make up for it. In high school, too many snow days were unwanted, for that meant cutting your summer short. In college, there are no makeup days.
5. The Excitement Of A Snow Day
Whether in college or high school, there is no better feeling than waking up to a text that you don't have to get out of bed right then and go to class. It is clear that in both cases, snow days are seen as a blessing to students.
