Snapchat Released Its Creepiest Update Yet

Snap Map, a new feature that lets users track other people’s location in real time is the latest update from Snapchat.

“See what's happening, find your friends, and get inspired to go on an adventure!” said the company.

I can see how Snap Map could be a helpful tool on a night out. Knowing what’s happening in your area and where the hotspots are can save you time and help you discover new places.

But overall, I think this new feature perpetuates the unhealthy culture of social media stalking that has come about in recent years.

A user can turn on “Ghost Mode," which means your Snapchat friends will not be able to see your location, but you can still see where your friends are.

If you choose to share your location, your exact location (including streets and aerial building views) will be shown to your friends. Sound creepy yet?

Snap Map updates your location every time you open Snapchat and also tells others exactly how many minutes ago you were active.

Unlike Facebook or Instagram stalking, you don’t have to be the one to search for information with this new update. The Snap Map gives you information without having to lift a finger.

Which means Snapchat just provided an even easier way to stalk friends, exes, and co-workers. Not to mention, their new feature is an even more dangerous stalking tool than other forms of social media because people know where they can find you in real time.

Why is it necessary to share your location so friends can see exactly where you are throughout the day? I personally don’t share mine because frankly, I don’t think many people care where I am and it’s creepy. If you want to know where I am, you can text or call me and ask.

There are people on my friends list that I barely talk to, and it’s creepy that even if I don’t talk to them, I know where they are. Even if I didn’t want to stalk them, I basically already am.

Snap Map is adding to society’s weird, harmful obsession with having to know extremely personal details about our peers. It’s making us more nosy and providing yet another way to waste valuable time.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
