So many people around the globe use Snapchat that it’s almost ridiculous. As a Snapchat user myself, I would like to list five things Snapchat needs to stop doing. Like. Now.
1. Assuming everyone wants to hear about things like the Kardashians and the endless wardrobe malfunctions of celebrities.
It’s not that this is something I don’t care about personally, but I think everyone can agree we see enough of this stuff on every other social media app, and if we were so concerned about this stuff, we would look it up ourselves.
2. Putting highly sexual or explicit content on an app that should be for early teens plus.
If we want our future generations to have any kind of modesty and respect, let’s expose them to decent information worthy of reading. Snapchat shouldn’t be trying to reach people who obsess over over-sexualized people in their spare time. It should be trying to reach young generations aspiring to do better with their free time, such as education and creativity.
3. Normalizing unproductive behavior.
We all see those memes that target lazy people and procrastinators with the “I feel ya” vibe. Yes, we all know we can be lazy occasionally and there are probably better things we can be doing than being on Snapchat, to be honest. But let’s not try and create a new trend, if it hasn’t been created already.
4. Assuming young generations are always liberal.
Snapchat, I know you’re trying to target certain audiences, but it is so far-fetched to assume we all want weed legalized, abortions accepted, and Beyoncé for president in 2020. It’s also making conservatives feel secluded and abnormal. Our president is Republican!
5. Promoting impossible beauty standards.
From the filters to the beauty and celebrity articles, Snapchat makes it clear what they find beautiful. If you’ve got a round face, bad news for you. If you’ve got a flat behind, bad news. Same with thin eyebrows, pale skin, and a bigger stomach.
Now I do come across some articles that promote natural beauty and body confidence, but rarely are these coming from the real, raw experiences of human society. I get that you want all of the clothing brands to make sizes for literally every single size of humanity on the planet, but when you turn around and put a slideshow of celebrities who’ve gotten twenty plastic surgeries who are definitely the hottest, we see what you really think.
Snapchat, please recognize the fact that most of the things you are putting out there for people to read are useless and of little information.
We will look up a DIY about a face mask if we are looking to create one. You don’t have to choose the way too specific articles that you think we need to know about.
Publish some real news, and more people will take it seriously. I get that it’s supposed to be fun, but when you try to create one single community out of 7.5 billion people, you’re not reaching everyone that you could be.
Be accepting of different standards, morals, and perspectives. Quit hiding behind a ghost symbol!
