There's the possibility it could've just been the smoky atmosphere. There's the possibility it could've just been the fact that we had reached the point in the night where my contacts get a little bit blurry. But I could've sworn Sean Scanlon, lead singer of Smallpools, winked at me seconds after taking the stage at the House of Blues in Dallas, Texas.
It was a late Wednesday night, but we didn't care. It was finally summertime and we needed to kick off the concert season somehow.
Smallpools is touring the U.S. with Great Good Fine Ok and special guest Half The Animal, and they only have about one-third of their tour left, so get your tickets here!
As the crowd screamed louder my heartrate screamed louder too, feet away from the electricity radiating off of the stage. Trying to capture so much vivacity on camera is near impossible, pictures never do the music industry justice.
Nothing beats the real thing. Live. The way music is supposed to be heard.
We got the treat of hearing their new single “Stumblin' Home" live, and my personal favorite, “Million Bucks" off of “The Science of Letting Go" out now, that you can listen to here on Spotify.
Between bouncing around bodies as well as a blow-up killer whale, the crowd wasn't shying away from leaving it all at the venue.
Smallpools gave us all the dance part we needed, whether we had realized it or not.
The energy was at an all-time high the whole entire time, and everyone was singing their hearts out. We weren't exactly harmonizing with Sean, but he didn't seem to care.
Closing the night with their number one hit “dreaming," the crowd dared to continue dreaming as we spilled out into the night, ticket stubs and memories kept for safekeeping in our back pockets.
Listening to Steering from the Passenger Side is one thing, steering from the Passenger Side while riding home after a Smallpools concert is another. If you ask me, I prefer the latter.
