25 Simple Kindnesses That Will Color Your World With Smiles

Here's a riddle: What is free, not sold in stores and a quality every human has in them? Kindness!

Kindness is what brings sunlight to the world and smiles to our faces. Whether kindness lies deep down in our hearts or radiates through our beautiful smiles, we all have one thing in common: the ability to be kind.

And there are a lot of ways you can be kind throughout your everyday life. For example...

1. Smile at those you walk by.

Smiling never hurts anyone.

2. Donate to a charity you care about.

Even $10 can help out a lot.

3. Hold the door open for those walking behind you.

A few extra seconds of your time can't hurt you.

4. Offer to help carry an elderly person's groceries.

When you get older, you will want the same done for you.

5. Pay for the person behind you in line.

You can simply tell them to "pay it forward." It will probably start a chain reaction.

6. Buy someone a cup of coffee.

A warm cup of coffee can warm someone's heart.

7. Tell someone you love just how much they mean to you.

You never know how much they need to hear it.

8. Genuinely compliment someone.

If you think someone has pretty eyes, let them know!

9. Volunteer at a homeless shelter.

You can never go wrong with volunteering!

10. Make breakfast for your family.

Even if you only make eggs, you are bound to make someone's morning.

11. Hug someone!

A small embrace can make the biggest difference in someone's day.

12. Donate your old clothes to the Salvation Army.

You don't need them anyway.

13. Ask someone how their day was and really listen.

When we say "Hi, how are you?", we always expect the word "good" to follow. However, no one is always good. So, next time you ask someone how their day was, make sure to listen and show you care.

14. Surprise your friend with a surprise care package.

Etsy has SO many of them!

15. Walk your neighbor's dog for them.

It's a way to spend time with a dog, how can you pass that up?

16. Offer to go grocery shopping for an elderly neighbor.

You would want that done for you!

17. Place post-it notes with cute and inspirational messages in a public restroom.

It's guaranteed to make someone smile.

18. Offer to watch someone's favorite movie with them.

It'll make their soul smile!

19. Treat customer service workers with respect.

They work really hard and face a lot of rude customers throughout the day. Be the reason they leave work with a smile on their face!

20. Leave your waiter/waitress a big tip.

They deserve it!

21. Buy a stranger lunch.

Even buying a bagel for five dollars can give someone a million dollar smile.

22. Be polite to those around you!

There is no excuse for being rude!

23. Leave money in a vending machine.

Even if you leave 50 cents, it can help out a lot.

24. Treat your friend or family member to ice cream for no reason.

You can never go wrong with ice cream.

25. Be the change that YOU want to see in the world.

Change begins with you. Go out there and act upon the change that you desire to see.

There are an endless amount of ways to make a positive impact in this world. Ignite the light that you want to see. You are capable of amazing things!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
