Where To Sleep On Campus

Don't have a dorm? No fear, there are plenty of places on campus to nap.

College students are always busy. Running from class to class while still making time for friends, clubs, and part-time jobs is exhausting. Sometimes it feels like you just want to do nothing but take a good, long rest. That is why dorms are so convenient. In between classes, you can just take a short walk to the bed in your dorm and sleep. If you commute every day, however, your bed is some ways away, making it impossible to crash whenever you want.

But is it really impossible? As a commuting college student, I have had days where I am very, very tired, and I would give anything for a nap. Fortunately, I have discovered a few places on campus where I can catch some z’s without anyone bothering me.

1. Study rooms

Study rooms in the library are perfect places to catch up on some reading and homework. They're quiet, and no one is going to bother you as long as actually you reserved your room. That is why these are a perfect place to sleep. Make sure to book the room for an hour or two, pull out a chair, and turn your backpack into a makeshift pillow. Just try not to use the study room as your napping space during finals. That's kind of a jerk move.

2. A full classroom

I always try to show my professors the utmost respect. However, there are a lot of times when I'm just tired and some professors' classes might not be very exciting. Turning off the lights to highlight a PowerPoint presentation does not make it easy to stay awake, either. That's why, if the classroom is packed and the professor cannot see you clearly, sitting in the back provides an opportune time to nap. This should probably be a last resort, though, since it is kind of rude to ignore your professor, and if you snore, sleeping in class is really problematic.

3. The car

If you are able to commute to school every day, then you own a mobile bed. It might be a little cramped, but if you are really tired, you probably won’t mind the lack of space. Just make sure to park somewhere with shade, roll down the window, and pray that it doesn’t rain. It is probably also a good idea to set an alarm so that you don’t end up missing a class or your part-time job.

4. Your friend’s dorm

It is good to have friends, and even better when those friends live on campus. All you have to do is ask to hang with them for a while and get comfortable on the floor in the corner. When your friend least expects it, just shut your eyes and enjoy your rest. Your friend shouldn’t be too upset, since they know how tiring college can be.

So, the next time you are tired, or it’s been a long day and you just want to take a nap, take a look around your campus. I am sure you will find some safe and comfortable place to get some shut-eye.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
