Six Affordable Trips You Can Take While In College

What do you do with all the freedom that college brings? You travel. Of course, traveling does come at a price. But, it is possible to travel on a budget and have a great time. Just grab a friend or a group of friends and hit the road.

1. Poconos, Pennsylvania

There may be some pricey neighborhoods, but there are also some inexpensive areas where you can score a weekend in a house for under $200 a night. If you split that between a group of people, it’s an extremely inexpensive way to enjoy a weekend get-away. You can ski in the winter, or find a lake for the warmer months.

2. Montréal, Quebec, Canada

You can even travel to a different country on a budget. Just find a hotel deal and enjoy exploring a new city without spending money on museums or other silly expenses. Try websites like Expedia, Kayak, or Trip Advisor in order to find the best bargains. Then enjoy the architecture, language, and nightlife of Montreal. PSA: the legal drinking age is 18.

3. Orlando, Florida

If you're lucky, you will be able to find flights for under $100 to the sunshine state. There are countless things to do in the surrounding area. Theme parks such as Disney or Universal may get pricey, but there is plenty of entertainment and shopping areas you can wander for free. Disney Springs, outlets, Citywalk and so many more free opportunities await. But, spending a few extra dollars to see Cinderella’s castle or the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is not the worst idea! Hotels are not too pricey either if you find the right deal.

4. Washington D.C.

Who wouldn’t want to tour an area with a bit of history just about everywhere you look? Washington D.C. is a drive away and perfect for a weekend get-away if you are into touring museums and monuments. Many areas you can tour for free while others come at a price. Hotels rooms can even be found from $75 a night.

5. Niagara Falls, New York/Ontario, Canada

Take a weekend trip to the international border between the United States and Canada and see three famous waterfalls. It might be a long drive, but the view is totally worth every second. Hotels run as low as less than $50 per night. So the money you save on the hotel can be put towards gas. Then spend your days exploring the falls and the province of Ontario, Canada. Bring a poncho or raincoat

6. New York, New York

Manhattan may be an expensive place to live…but it’s possible to take a trip and not break the bank. For around $100 a night, you can stay in NYC. Walking around Central Park, or just exploring the architecture of the city are ways to save money. But, there are endless possibilities when it comes to what to do with your time in NYC. The Freedom Tower, Empire State, and Rockefeller Building are just a few buildings that supply a magnificent view and a ton of history. They may come at a price, but that’s when the CityPASS comes in handy. For just $114, you get admission to Manhattans top six attractions, including museums, buildings, and so many other great experiences.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
