A Thank You To My Best Belle Friends

College has showed me what a true friendship is and how blessed I am to have them.

A Thank You To My Best Belle Friends
Jazmin Herrera

When I first came to visit Saint Mary's I was promised sisterhood. Coming from a small school where there was always drama I thought to myself, "bullshit". I still chose to come to Saint Mary's because the campus was beautiful and I loved the good vibes I had gotten every time I visited. When I first got here, I was so scared I wouldn't make friends or that there would be pointless drama, but of course, I was proven wrong. I received so many smiles and "hellos" every day. I made new friendships with people who are the complete opposite from me. I've made friendships that have assured me I will have my 12 bridesmaids one day. I don't have best friends, I have sisters. I have sisters that accept me for who I am, and love me for me. I can be who I am or express the way the feel, without the fear of being judged. Here is my list of thank yous to my best friends.

1. Thank You For Listening To My Rants

Even if it's about my relationship, family, big, or small problems. Or how I'm ranting about my class for a half hour when we can both be doing homework. You listen and give me advice, no matter what time of the day.

2. Thank You For Motivating Me

When I'm down in the dumps, or I'm simply being a bum, you're on my ass and make sure I'm on track. You look out for me, and without you, I'd be an even bigger bum.

3. Thank You For Staying Up With Me

When you're doing homework at night, or laundry, or whatever I decided to do at night, and you're dead tired, you stay there and keep me company and help me stay up. Even if it's with laughs or running to Cyber at night, we manage to keep each other up at night, no matter what time our first class is the next day.

4. Thank You For The Laughs

Regardless if we're laughing together or at each other, laughs are always guaranteed. We do dumb stuff together. We watch funny videos on Facebook. We always bring laughs and these laughs help ease off the hell that make up our hell weeks.

5. Thank You For Keeping It Real

Instead of talking behind my back when you're mad, you speak directly to me. We fix our problems and we're back to being happy friends. If you don't like something you are not afraid to correct me, which of course helps turn me into a better person. You are not afraid of honesty.

6. Thank You For Loving Me For Me

You accept me for who I am. Despite my weird habits, my raspy laugh, and whatever weird characteristics I have. YOU LOVE ME. It doesn't matter what I wear, where I come from, or what my music taste is. I could be far off from your side of the spectrum and you still love me, even if I'm not so lovable sometimes.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
