Every year a plethora of singles dread the one holiday that is not only the epitome of consumerism (like Christmas) but simultaneously reminds them of their relationship status (or lack thereof): Valentine's Day. The meaning behind Valentine's Day has been misconstrued over time. It's a day that symbolizes love and not purely the love between couples; thus, who said you can't celebrate the love you feel for yo self and those closest to you. Here's seven ways to treat yo self on Singles Awareness Day:
1. Buy half price candy
Everyone knows what the day after Valentine's Day stipulates: half price candy. Why not indulge in cheap chocolate and maybe even buy yourself an affordable bouquet of flowers to show yo self how much you appreciate yo self.
2. Pamper yo self with a spa trip
For some people, Singles Awareness Day can be stressful. Wine down with a lovely non-couple's massage because yo fabulous self deserves it.
3. Take yo self out to a fancy dinner with a fellow single
Who said Valentine's has to be spent alone? Go out to a restaurant you only treat yo self to after a fat paycheck. Get a friend to tag along so you don't have to dine alone in a sea of couples.
4. Grab drinks with close friends
Go out for a night on the town with your closest singles and celebrate your romantic unattachments together. Do I hear champagne bottles popping?
5. Make a spontaneous decision
Is there something you've desired to do for awhile but kept talking yourself out of it? What better way to treat yo self than doing something spontaneous like dye your hair, get a piercing or take an impromptu vacation?
6. Netflix and chill
Why should today be any different than any other? Treat yo self with an extra few hours of binge watching whatever show you're currently hooked on.
Most importantly...
7. Treat yo self by not feeling sorry for yo self
Too many people feel pity for themselves on this holiday. Rather than thinking about what you don't have (a significant other), think about all the things you do have. Remember that Valentine's Day is a celebration of love not of couples.
