Valentine’s Day. It’s that time of year that, no matter where you look, it seems like everyone is in love. Love can happen anywhere and anytime, but around this time of year, there seems to be more hand-holding, kissing and cuddling prevalent everywhere. That is, unless you’re single.
For those of us who are away from family and lacking a significant other on Valentine’s Day, it can be a bit disheartening and, for lack of a better word, depressing. But it certainly doesn’t have to be! Here are five things anyone can do at Valentine’s Day that would make even the most dedicated couples jealous.
1. Recruit some friends!
So you're single on Valentine's Day. But guess what? So are a lot of people! And you can bet some of your friends are as well. So why not get everyone together to go see a movie, go for dinner, or go ice skating? It will get you out of the house and maybe even make you forget that it even is Valentine's Day.
2. Spend the night with your Hollywood man/woman.
Maybe you don't want to go out into the world and brave the guaranteed crowds of couples flitting about between the movies and dinner. No problem! Just change into your PJs, make some popcorn, and get comfy for a night of movies starring your celebrity crush. You'll get to relax from a hectic week and it sure beats having to dress up and actually do something in the big, bad, real world.
3. Secret Valentine's, anyone?
This is another way to get your friends together for a little bit of "Singles Awareness Day" fun. Just like you would do with Secret Santa, everyone is assigned a person to buy a small gift for and then exchange them at a party. It doesn't have to be anything crazy and it's a great excuse to get together and enjoy each other's company!
4. Treat yo' self!
Not having someone else to spend your money on can be a good thing. Instead, you can treat yourself to your favorite restaurant, buy a box of chocolates, go get a mani-pedi, or purchase that new pair of shoes you've been eyeing up at that store down the street. Whatever it is, make some effort to love yourself for a change.
5. Go on a date... with a friend!
Nowadays, most of our social interaction takes place on a screen. Take this Valentine's Day as a chance to put the phone down and go to a cafe or restaurant for a nice lunch or dinner with one of your best friends. While there, you can analyze the couples in the room and try to figure our their life stories. Or you can just catch up with each other...whatever suits your fancy.
No matter what you decide to do this Valentine's Day, just remember that the most important thing is that you're having fun and loving yourself as much as anyone else would!
