Valentine’s Day. Either you’ve got someone to celebrate it with or you’re single. Which both cases are okay! But as a single person myself, with Valentine’s day falling on a Wednesday this year (which leads to a very limited list of things to do on this day), I decided to comprise of list of things I want to do on Valentine’s day, and hopefully help others have an idea of what to do on this day. Although if I’m being honest here, I’ll probably end up finishing up some homework/notes and then watch Netflix until 2 in the morning (as I usually do, don’t judge).
1. Visit a museum
Probably only a me thing, being an art history major and all, but there are a bunch of museums that I haven’t visited yet in LA. The one that I particularly want to visit is the Museum of Neon Art. Mostly just to take pictures but also to see what all the hype is about. If you live in LA, museums like The Broad, LACMA, and MOCA would be ones that I would recommend. Even the Exposition Park Rose Garden (right across from USC) would be a great place to spend Valentine’s day to take photos and walk around. If you’re like me, whose last class ends around 7 pm, you might not be able to visit these places before closing, but there is always the weekend.
2. Have a spa day
Probably what I’ll be doing on Valentine's day due to the simplicity of it. Even if you’re living in a dorm room or with roommates, you could easily have a spa day, with some limitations but overall still end up being a relaxing experience. Start by deep conditioning your hair, having a mini pedicure/manicure, wear a face mask, moisturize and exfoliate your body and face and end it with a hot shower when you’re done.
3. Watch Netflix (plus some of my recommendations)
Honestly, watching Netflix on Valentine’s day should be a mandatory item on your list. Even if you do have work that night, take some time to finish the day by at least watching one episode of your favorite Netflix show. Or even watch it while you’re indulging in your little spa day!
Need some Netflix recommendations? Some of my quick recs would be La Casa de Papel, Narcos, Black Mirror, La Niña, Tunnel and La Reina del Sur.
4. Send some Valentine’s love to friends and family
Go ahead and send a quick text/Snapchat to some friends. Call your parents, siblings, wishing them a happy Valentine’s day. Valentine’s day is not only for couples to show their love for one another, it’s also for families and friends to show their admiration for each other.
5. Go out with other single people
And honestly, don’t do all the items on this list by yourself (only if you really wanted to, as a fellow introvert, I understand). Have a dinner with friends, bake/cook a meal with them, have a movie/tv show marathon that lasts late into the night, go out to a party with them (which I guarantee that there will be many on Valentine's day, if not on the weekend).
Overall, if you’re single, don’t spend Valentine’s wallowing in not having a significant other.
Embrace it.
Take care of yourself, spend time with friends, or treat it as any other normal day.
