Classes started last week and I’m already behind. I thought my professors would want to at least ease into the semester and give us some time to readjust to life at school, but that clearly isn’t the case.
I anticipated using this week to catch up with friends, maybe go to the bar or party, and maybe even start adjusting my sleep schedule to prepare myself for early mornings for class.
Instead of a nice, relaxing the first week back, I find myself sitting here, two weeks into the semester, already drowning in notes and assignments from the first week of class. I had no time to readjust or prepare myself to a school lifestyle.
How could professors be that eager to teach? It's almost as if they look forward to making their students fall so behind in their work that there is no possible way for them to catch up. The even more eager professors send emails two weeks before classes start to assign readings and written assignments.
I never thought I would find myself begging for the awful first days of classes full of terrible and awkward icebreakers and playing get-to-know-you games with your fellow classmates. Trust me, telling an entire class full of strangers three "interesting" facts about me when I guarantee none of them care or are even listening would be so much better than taking notes from lectures and writing down a million homework assignments.
Don’t professors want an easy start too?
Apparently not. Apparently, they enjoy jumping right into the first lecture before they've even finished going over the syllabus.
So cheers to the rest of the semester full of assignments. I guess I’ll have to find my easy break somewhere else because it clearly didn’t happen during sylly week, but I'll only find that break if I don't keep falling behind. Cheers!
