Nothing is better than being home for the holidays.
It's hard, however, to balance your limited time with your childhood friends and your family. Try out some of these activities to make sure that you give your family the time they deserve, while also setting aside time to hang out with your friends.
1. Watch a holiday-themed movie in the comfort of your home
Suggest simple and low-key activities. This way, your parents won't feel pressured to entertain you with grand holiday gestures. This activity shows that you just want to be around the comfort of your family. Especially if you pick the movie, they will recognize your effort to spend quality time with them away from the distraction of your friends.
2. Offer to take the entire family out for hot chocolate
Not only does this show your effort to bond with your family, but it also shows your maturity. Even if you weren't planning on spending money, the gesture itself will probably be enough for your parents to chip in. Afterwards, you are freed up to do spend the rest of the day with your friends.
3. Suggest a family dinner around the dining room table
Give your family the chance to ask you about your life. I know it seems like a drag for the most part, but at least you won't need to talk about your ambitions and life goals for the rest of the break. Make sure to help you parents in the kitchen.
4. Spend a day with your younger siblings
Take the younger siblings out to a movie or to the park. Give your parents some time to themselves. You might be their only babysitter. If your younger siblings are anything like mine, they will love you more for this.
5. Take a morning walk with the fam
If you have a holiday party planned with your friends, make sure to give your family time with you in the morning. It's important to at least spend a little bit of time with your family every day of break, so make sure you check it off early in the day.
