With a global pandemic currently headlining news all across the world, it's natural to feel overwhelmed, uncertain, and nervous. Everywhere we look, it's all anyone is talking about and if you're reading this, I'm writing about it, too. But, if I have your attention today I'd like to shine a little light on all the beautiful things that have come about as a result of this. We all know of how this event has affected our population in negative ways, but there's so much good that has come out of it as well.
Before that, thank you to all those who are putting their lives at risk every single day caring for those in need. Amidst all of this, there are still children being born, injuries that need to be treated, and the elderly that need to be looked after in nursing homes. Thank you for putting in extra hours and putting others' needs before your own - you all are heroes.
In that regard, not all of what is written below will apply to everyone, but it's important for those to whom it does to recognize the rare opportunity we've all been given.
The chance to slow down.
To those who find themselves working from home or transitioning to online classes, yes, it may be a weird time.
However, for those students who found themselves being stretched too thin in every different direction, I hope you have found relief and comfort.
To the adult who felt they weren't going to be able to handle life's pressure anymore, I hope you feel that there is now room to breathe.
The chance to see family more often.
To the parents who felt guilty for leaving their children at home while they helped pay the bills, I hope you realize that you weren't in the wrong; the universe was listening to you all along and has gifted you time together.
To the children who felt the need for someone to talk to, the universe was listening to you, too - I hope you have been able to spill your heart.
To the siblings who missed their partners-in-crimes, I hope you find yourself at home reliving childhood memories and creating new ones.
The chance for nature to heal.
Let's face it: our hustle-and-bustle was never going to stop if it weren't for something like this. And along with our usual neverending movement came the inevitable destruction of our beloved planet. Now, at least, there are fewer cars being driven, fewer planes in the skies, and slower production on so many grounds - all leading to less pollution.
I hope it's a chance for Nature to breathe, too, after all the over-compensating it's had to do.
Many aspects of the world are now moving at a slower pace. It's what we've needed for a long time and this may have been the only way humans would give in. Maybe it's a lesson for all of us to slow down our life's pace now and in the years to come. Maybe this will serve as a reminder to never take a single moment for granted. Maybe this will teach us to let go of grudges - life is less than a second on the timeline of the world. Maybe this will teach us that the world doesn't really revolve around us.
Maybe, just maybe, it will help some of us to love a little more.
