Californians, just like people from all states, "tell-tale" signs. Some are obvious and some are picked up, but nevertheless, the residents of California see to have some similar traits, and here they are:
1. There is a big difference between Northern California and Southern California
Whether you live in Northern California or Southern California, stereotypes and biases do exist. Northern California is generally more green in vegetation, the beaches are colder and foggier, rains more frequently than its southern counterpart, and definitely has better water (it's basically a science). Southern California has beaches upon beaches, consistent (well, pretty consistent) 75-degree and sunny weather, and is more urban than Northern California, home to over twice as many people.
2. Overall friendliness is completely normal
While it may seem odd or awkward to witness complete strangers wave, smile, and even make conversation with one another, in California this is completely normal.
3. Driving ability becomes significantly worse when it rains
4. Flip-flops are an appropriate choice of shoe for almost all occasions
Californians have sandals for every occasion. Whether it be for school, the beach, the movies, or even a nice dinner, flip-flops are always the shoe of choice.
5. The Mexican food really is amazing
Of course there is no competing with true, authentic Mexican food from Mexico, but California definitely has the next best thing. Some of the best Mexican food can be found in places like San Diego and Los Angeles, and we take our burritos, enchiladas, and tacos very seriously.
6. You know more than one person that is vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free
Sparked by the increase of artsy, creative and healthy new restaurants, Californians love to experiment with different diets, opting to switch to a meat-free or gluten-free lifestyle.
