They say if you got it flaunt it, but I say if you got it, cover it in floral fabrics and quaint lace. I am 22 years old, but you will not find a mini skirt or three inch heels in my closet. My wardrobe is filled with what my friends call “grandma chic” style clothing. But it is not just my outer shell that is granny-esque, my daily habits and personality also resembles those who are elderly. If you find yourself relating to this article, you also may be a grandma trapped in a 20-something-year-old’s body!
I do not go out to parties unless there is food or a dress code. I just do not see the point in walking long distances (sometimes in absolutely terrible weather) to socialize with people who do not particularly care about my well-being just to get drunk on bad tasting alcohol that will most likely cause me to be useless the next morning. I would much rather stay home, make a quality dinner, listen to some Fleetwood Mac, and finish the school work I put off until the weekend.
I also feel like I care about things that most people my age probably do not think about too often. I am constantly appreciative of my youth and the things my body allows me to do without fault. Honestly, I am scared for that day in the future when a part of my body stops working like it used to. I have started buying organic foods and toiletries because I have educated myself about what some corporations put in products and food that literally cause cancer. I have also included yoga into my morning routines. Remember, it does not have to be all or nothing when trying to live well, some days you fall back into old habits but just keep making a conscious effort to do better. If you take care of our body while you are young, you will be much better off when you are a grandma for real!
People have told me that I have an old soul. I have never been exactly sure what that means, but I think it that you are more in touch with the connection of all things and reject the materialism of modern society. Old souls recognize that their actions affect the world around them and they can learn from others’ mistakes instead of learning things the hard way. Old souls feel emotions strongly because they do not believe in suppressing feelings. They have realized that the emotions they experience are valid, and therefore, should be addressed. Old souls are wise beyond their years, but also know that there is still plenty to learn.
So yes, I am not exactly the life of the party and wear nothing formfitting or without cat hair, but being a grandma trapped in a 20-something-year-old’s body definitely has its positives!
