15 Signs You're The "Grandma" Of The Friend Group
Alex Harvey

In every group, there's always that one friend who we refer to as the "mom." She takes care of everyone and caters to their needs. When the group goes out, she's the one making sure you all make it back in one piece. Her purse has all the essentials. Need some hand sanitizer? Gum? A Bottle of water? Yup, she's got them. She's treasured and loved for being a life-saver, but no one ever talks about the "grandma" of the squad.

Oh, you know: that other friend who cannot be forced to go out because she has a scheduled bedtime. She does not give a single damn about missing out on anything. FOMO's got nothing on her. She might not be the go-to for wild nights, but she's the one you can count on to feed you and give you the brutally honest opinion or advice you need.

If you're struggling to figure out who the "grandma" is of your group, chances are it might be you. Here are 15 signs you're that friend:

1. You're already in bed before midnight while your friends are just getting started with their night

You actually go to bed at a decent time because it's very important for you to get seven to eight hours of sleep.

2. No one can ever succeed convincing you to leave your apartment and go out

You just don't have the patience to spend an hour doing your makeup and another hour to pick an outfit.

3. Whenever someone tries to make plans with you past 10 P.M., it's an automatic no

Like, doesn't anyone understand you're so over the late-night shenanigans already? That was so freshman year!

4. You wake up at 7 A.M. and make breakfast while your friends are only two or three hours into their sleep

Guess who woke up fresh and well-rested? THIS GIRL!

5. When you say you slept in, you mean you were in bed until nine, not noon

Time is gold and you got shit to do!

6. Your friends drink coffee like it's water and then, there's you with tea

Sipping on tea while I spill some, if you know what I mean.

7. You prefer wearing your glasses over contacts

Glasses are cool! Some people even wear fake glasses just to achieve this look.

8. Everything needs to be clean and organized at all times

Your OCD kicks in when something's not in the right place.

9. Your playlists consist of songs that came out decades before you were even born

I still adore Champagne Papi and Pretty Flacko, don't get me wrong.

10. And, you hate when the music is being played too loudly

PLEASE TURN IT DOWN!

11. Sweaters are your go-to piece of clothing

Tiny girl, big sweaters.

12. You're the one everyone goes to when they need some brutal honesty

"mom" friend may be nice and cheers you on, but you ain't here to sugarcoat anything.

13. Also, the one they run to for emergencies

Hungry? Go ahead, I baked too many muffins. Sick? I've got something for every symptom you have.

14. You can't help but feel nostalgic when you reminisce about your "good girl gone bad" days

When your friends show you the old videos of you wilding out . . . What a time, huh?

15. As much as you might miss those days, you're content with your nights in

You've got it all out of your system now. The crazy nights don't have the same appeal to your anymore.

Don't sleep on the "grandma" friend. They may not be as fun as they used to be, but they help you stay sane. They'll always be there for you, but make sure you hit them up before 10 at night. Otherwise, they're most likely already in bed and cannot be bothered.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
