The movie Shrek provides important social commentary that is as relevant today as it was in 2001. It elegantly uses humor to touch on a diverse spread of significant points:

Everyone judged Shrek by the color of his skin, rather than the soul that resided inside of it. As the movie progresses, it's clear that Shrek is a genuine, kind being, and his though his skin color plays a part in his identity, he rises against prejudice and proves himself.

Lord Farquaad attempts to throw himself into a marriage with Princess Fiona without even considering her consent. He only considers personal gain and completely disregards any of Fiona's preference, essentially forming an arranged marriage that Fiona thankfully makes her way out of.
